The cost of education at Wayne State for the fall semester was the hot topic during the Student Council's regular monthly meeting.

Tuition rates and how much they will increase was the main focus during an informal presentation given by Robert Kohrman, associate vice president of university budget.

Incoming freshmen and undergraduate transfer students will pay $324 per credit hour in the fall, a 6.6 percent increase.

The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees unanimously approved the increase at its Thursday meeting over two other options.

A student taking a total of 30 credit hours for two semesters will pay $9,720 for tuition instead of last falls' $9,120.

Dr. Csaba Juhasz, assistant professor of pediatrics and neurology at Wayne State's School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Michigan, has received a $1.5 million award from the National Cancer Institute to research a new imaging technique that detects and provides information about brain tumors.

On July 1st, 2008, sales tax in Chicago officially became the highest in the nation, at a rate of 10.25%. Todd Stroger, President of the Cook County Board, pushed for the one percent increase to help cover funding in his budget. Now, consumers buying any goods in the city limits will pay slightly more than they did last month.

The latest addition to the graffiti-covered alley on Liberty Street near the Michigan Theater - known to some as Tripper's alley, bubble gum alley, or the alley where that one guy dances to Michael Jackson - is arguably the least creative to date.

From the floor eight feet up towards the ceiling, a wall of the mural is now barely discernable beneath a coat of white paint that was applied last week by unidentified vandals.

Robert Castillo and John Pennycuff, a Logan Park couple who have been together for seventeen years, held up their marriage license as the crowd cheered.

Almost every day last school year, Subway's lunch rush would form a line weaving through the basement of the Michigan Union. But less than a handful of people chose to take their meals at Magic Wok or Villa Pizza.

The Union was set to replace the oft-ignored businesses with Panda Express and Domino's Pizza.
